My profile currently says:
Rambler, writer, photographer, planner extraordinaire. Lover of all things homemade, creative, and fun. Strong believer that family, close friends, and cats make this life worth living.
That’s the Coles-Notes version.
I’m originally from the island province of Newfoundland in Atlantic Canada. I have two incredible parents who are celebrating 36 years of marriage this year. I have one older sister (B) who is almost six years older than I am and lives in a neighbouring province, but I also like to think I have a pseudo brother (PE) and sister (PJ) - younger cousins who lived nearby.
When I graduated high school I moved from my home on the west coast of the island to Halifax, Nova Scotia for university. There I spent an exorbitant amount of money for the piece of paper that currently hangs in my home office – a Bachelor of Public Relations. I’ve since added a Certificate in Photography to the mix. But that's just for fun.
I remained in Halifax after graduation, due much in part to meeting a wonderful man I eventually married (often referred to as hubs or "A"). He is in the Canadian Forces (CF) and we are based here. In his element we don’t really move, so we’re fortunate our lives aren’t uprooted every couple of years. Still, being a military spouse can be challenging. And I’m aware I’ve only experienced the tip of the iceberg.
After filling one maternity leave in the hospitality sector and another almost three-year stint in a health care organization, I’ve settled into a position with a local not-for-profit organization (that everyone seems to think is government). Those micro & macroeconomics courses I loathed in university have served me well.
My husband and I had our first (and likely only!) baby ten weeks early in March, 2012. The little boy was due in mid-May, but unexpectedly he had other plans. I shared my birth story here. This is the second child for hubs - he has an almost-16 year old son from his younger years who currently lives in our home province.

My blog is a hodge podge of my random urges to write/ramble/rant/review. My mind goes a mile a minute. I can think about kitty litter one minute and Afghanistan the next (what?! You’re not following my logical leap?!). I liken the way I think to Ellen Degeneres’ way of writing (and subsequently thinking, I assume) – random and tangent-y. My posting frequency will likely be the same - erratic and not even remotely consistent or predictable. As I move into mommy-dom I imagine there will be many parent-ish posts.
And in the spirit of loving all-things-Ellen…from her book The Funny Thing Is…
Please make yourself at home while you read [it]: Take off your shoes, loosen your pants, make those funny at-home faces that we all make. Be comfortable. On the other hand, if you're reading this in a more public place -- a plane, a train, a jurors' box during a trial -- it might serve you better to be a little less comfortable.
